THIRD ANNOUNCEMENT, PAMINSA- BOLIVIA 2023

Dear colleagues:

We are pleased to announce the participation modalities of the IX PAMinSA- Palepathology Association Meeting in South America that will be held from August 9 to 11, 2023 in the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia.

As in previous meetings, in addition to the Master Conferences and the poster session, we planned to have Symposiums and Round Tables. In the case of oral presentations, who can not attend to the event in person, may also participate virtually.

All information about the congress is available on our website (https://paminsabolivia.umss.edu.bo/). Announcements and information about the event will be updated frequently on the website and on the social networks of Facebook and Instagram (IX PAMinSA Bolivia).

Abstracts should be sent until March 1, 2023, indicating the exhibition instance (name of the symposium, round table or poster session). The Organizing Commission and the Scientific Committee will be in charge of receiving, evaluating and selecting the summaries sent for each modality, until April 30. However, for the rest of the attendees, registration will be open until the day of the congress. The programming will be published until June 30, 2023.

We encourage researchers to submit proposals that incorporate multidisciplinary approaches that will help to the analysis, opportunities and challenges, even if they are not within the 9 thematic axes proposed for the round tables and symposiums, proposals will be received and evaluated. 

  1. MASTER CONFERENCES: The event will feature 4 master conferences that will be given by invited researchers from different countries. Each conference will have 30 minutes for its development and 10 minutes for questions. The guest list will be published in the next announcement.
  2. SYMPOSIA AND ROUND TABLES: this modality will attend 9 thematic axes for analysis and reflection, being the central of the análisis the theme of the event “Climate events, environmental changes, mobility and health in the past”.

The organizing and scientific committee will define 2 coordinators for the symposium and 4 for the round tables. Each exhibitor will present their work in 20 minutes, allowing 20 minutes at the end of each round table or symposium for discussion.

The thematic axes of the symposiums and round tables are the following:

  1. Climatic events, environmental changes, mobility and health in the past. 
  2. Epidemics and pandemics: bioarchaeological findings.  
  3. Problems of the state of conservation of bioarchaeological collections and its influence on paleopathological research.
  4. Traditional medicine, ancestral knowledge, intercultural and interscientific dialogue.  
  5. Technological advances for studies around paleopathology and paleoparasitology.     
  6. Nutrition.   
  7. Dental pathologies.     
  8. Forensic medicine and its interface with bioarchaeology.   
  9. Science popularization: contributions to the knowledge of paleopathology in the community. 

3. POSTERS:

In this modality, we invite to present ongoing or completed research, case studies, technological advances for bioarchaeological studies. The recommended dimensions are 150 cm high by 100 cm wide. During the meeting there will be specific sessions that will allow the authors to present their poster.

General aspects of the abstract format:

Proposals must be sent to the e-mail of IX PAMinSA ((paminsabolivia2023@gmail.com) in a Word file with the following information: name of the researcher.doc, Title (no more than 48 characters), name of the authors with their complete institutional affiliations and e-mail address, Arial font size 12, line spacing 1.5. The maximum length will be 250 words and must be written in English, Spanish or portuguese. The document must include 3 -5 keywords. They must include the following subheadings in bold: Objectives, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion.
